William, Son of Princess Deirdre and Earl Reginald of Cabra.
William is, perhaps, technology's greatest proponent in Amber. He believes that since it is available, the limits of its abilities should be explored, and its advantages applied. He has done so since the discovery of Corwin's gunpowder, having been, up until that moment, a classically trained swordsman and officer. Widely considered to be one of the best swordsman and officers of his generation, it was something of a surprise when technology seemed to wake William up to other possibilities, turning a swordsman into something of a miltary engineer, then a civil engineer, and even an inventor.
An iconoclast is classically defined as someone that attacks cherished beliefs and traditions. Someone that could be a called a rebel or a radical,a nonconformist. William, it can be said, is precisely that. He has attacked the traditions of Amberite Armed Forces, with an eye to improving the lot of the infantryman, and the common conceptions of civil engineering. He has changed mercantile interests, by encouraging what would be considered by some to be an industrial revolution...the addition of electric or gas lamps to the city streets, which in turn made for a longer, and thus, more profitable "day" for Amber's citizens, is only one such example.
